REVIEW ON EMPHASIS OF FUNGAL BIOREMEDIATION OF CONTAMINATED WASTEWATER

Aquatic ecosystems are constantly exposed to a considerable load of harmful chemicals that exceeds the purifying capacities, posing a serious threat to animal and human population. The non-biodegradability and bio-magnifications of inorganic pollutants in aquatic ecosystem causes considerable harm to the environment. To combat this persistent issue, bioremediation offers a conventional clean-up technology due to its cost effectiveness and comparatively low harmful impact on the environment. Among the various biological systems, fungi are often used for bioremediation because of their ease of handling and high tolerance of metals. The application of remediation using fungi can be greatly improved by the inclusion of nano-biotechnology. Metallic nanoparticles from fungus have gained attention in remediation of aquatic ecosystem because of their properties such as synthetic dye quenching, metal sensing, biocompatibility, and superparamagnetism. Though, the knowledge of the susceptibility to biodegradation of some contaminants is still lacking, this technology can be used for reducing or eliminating the pollutants in the atmosphere, water and soil environments. This review would particularly provide an overview of current research and the importance of bioremediation for removing the toxic components from wastewater. Furthermore, the bioremediation performance of enzymes and nanoparticles from fungi in wastewater will also be highlighted.

ADSORPTION OF HEAVY METALS CD(II), PB(II), AND CU(II) FROM WASTEWATER BY USING AGRICULTURE WASTE PRODUCT AS A LOWCOST ADSORBENT: A KINETIC STUDY

ABSTRACT
This study investigates the adsorption kinetics of Cd(II), Pb(II), and
Cu(II) on hydrochars derived from wheat straw, rice straw, and
bagasse using both conventional and microwave-assisted
hydrothermal treatments. Adsorption experiments were conducted to
evaluate the effectiveness of these materials, with kinetic models
applied to analyze the mechanism. The pseudo-second-order model
demonstrated a better fit for all metals, indicating chemisorption as
the primary process. Modified hydrochars, particularly those
prepared using microwave methods, exhibited significantly higher
adsorption capacities. Among them, m-HRS showed the best
performance, adsorbing 137.36 mg/g of Pb(II). These findings
highlight the potential of microwave-modified hydrochars for
efficient heavy metal removal from aqueous solutions, offering an
environmentally friendly solution to water contamination.

INTEGRATION OF GENOMIC SELECTION AND BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR SUSTAINABLE CROP IMPROVEMENT: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Sustainable crop improvement is essential to meet the rising
global demand for food, feed, and fiber amidst environmental
challenges and resource limitations. The integration of genomic
selection (GS) with advanced biotechnological tools offers a
promising pathway toward accelerated and precise crop
breeding. This review presents a comprehensive account of
how genomic selection—based on whole-genome prediction
models—and biotechnology, including molecular markers,
genetic engineering, and genome editing, are being combined
to enhance crop performance, stress tolerance, and nutritional
quality. We explore how GS enables early prediction of
complex traits, thereby shortening breeding cycles, while
biotechnological interventions such as CRISPR-Cas and
transgenic technologies allow targeted trait improvements. The
synergy of these tools is particularly transformative in
developing climate-resilient, pest-resistant, and nutrientenriched crop varieties. The review also discusses integrative
approaches that combine high-throughput phenotyping,
bioinformatics, and multi-omics technologies to optimize
selection accuracy. Limitations such as regulatory hurdles, data
management challenges, and adoption gaps in low-income
regions are addressed. Finally, the paper outlines future
prospects involving AI-powered genomic prediction, pangenomic models, and sustainable bio-innovation platforms. The
integration of GS and biotechnology holds the key to achieving
resilient and inclusive agricultural systems for the 21st century.
